With all the talk about downloading movies and music to the PSP you may not have realized that you also have the option of copying your DVD movie to your PSP. This really comes in handy if you are taking a trip and plan to watch the movie on the plane or in the car (assuming you're not the driver.) The best part is not having to lug around more equipment because if you have your PSP with you, you'll have all the entertainment you will need.
You have some choices to make regarding the transfer of your DVD movie to your PSP. Basically, these choices entail paying for the software that will take care of this transfer with just one or two clicks of the mouse or getting the software for free but having a much more detailed transfer that you will need to facilitate. Now, don't let me scare you away from the notion of trying the free ones because the ones I've seen do provide very detailed yet simple instructions.
At Least Try A Free Option
Look at it this way. Unless you're just petrified or you really don't want to mess with transferring your DVD movie to your PSP, you won't lose anything by trying something for free. If you don't like it or have difficulty with the transfer then you can always pay for the easier ones. In fact, whether you choose the free one or the pay utility, you can download either one to your computer. So it wouldn't hurt to download the free one and then if you didn't like it, whip out the ole credit card and buy the other one.
There's certainly more than one choice no matter which cost factor you choose. We'll go over one of each here. Sony's Media Manager, which sells for $19.95 to download the software and $29.95 for the packaged version, will transfer the video files to your PSP. However, it won't "rip" the movie off of your DVD. Meaning it won't copy the files from your DVD to your computer. Once you have "ripped" or "burned" or simply copied those files, then the Media Manager will download the DVD movie to your PSP.
There are several "rippers" you can get for free or you can certainly buy one. Interestingly enough, it only takes a click of the mouse for the Media Manager to search for and download your video files to your PSP, yet it will not get the files off of your DVD.
PSP Video 9 - A Fantastic Option
PSP video 9, which can be found on the website of the same name, is free and will also "rip" the video files off of your DVD. Now, it will take several more steps to complete the process using PSP video 9, but I have seen these instructions and they're very concise. What's more, they are all laid out on the screen for you so you can see what each screen should look like when you are making the transfer from your DVD movie to your PSP.
As you can see, there are choices to make before you can download your DVD movie to your PSP. Don't make the mistake of thinking it's too complicated for you though. Even if you have never transferred a computer file before, you can do this by following the simple instructions set forth in the software download. So before you leave your favorite movie at home, read up on ripping off - your DVD movie to your PSP that is.
