If you want to download anything to your PSP or save your game progress, you'll need to invest in at least one PSP memory card. If you're big on saving movie, music and game files, you may need to invest in more than one. You'll need to get the PSP Memory Stick PRO Duo in order to download and save files. You don't necessarily have to get the Sony PSP memory card. San Disk also sells the PSP Memory Stick PRO Duo with the prices being slightly less than Sony's. The prices online seem to be lower overall than the brick and mortar stores but then you have to look at shipping and you also have to consider reliability. Ebay has many of the memory cards but then you get the warning that some might be counterfeit. If you already know a trusted seller on Ebay though, you might check that out.
Buy.com & Their Brilliant Prices
Buy.com had the lowest prices online that I could find for both the San Disk and the Sony PSP memory card. They were also advertising free shipping which was going for as much as $10 on Ebay. That's a little pricey for something you can mail for the price of a letter. Buy.com's price for the Sony 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo was $59.99 but for the San Disk 1GB it was only 42.98. The Sony was temporarily out of stock however, it appeared they would get more soon.
Best Buy's prices for the 1GB PSP memory card ran only $5 difference between Sony and San Disk with San Disk coming in slightly cheaper at $64.99. Circuit City had the same price as Best Buy for the Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo at $69.99 although it did note that was after a $20 savings.
Best Buy and Circuit City both charge the same price for the Sony 2GB PSP memory card: $119.99, however Circuit City notes that price is after a $50 savings. No word on whether that savings is instant or in the form of a rebate or for a limited time. Best Buy has a $10 price difference for a San Disk 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo at 109.99.
Wal-mart offered competitive pricing for the San Disk 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo at $58.82.
The market for the PSP memory card is very competitive. You can get a good deal if you shop around but don't sacrifice quality by shopping at unscrupulous venues. Know who you are purchasing your PSP memory card from and enjoy the savings.
