They encode, we decode and then we tell everyone else how to decode. We wouldn't need a PSP video converter in the first place if the files weren't encrypted. It's a vicious cycle. Since we do need it though, let's find out how to work these things.
Using PSP Video 9
PSP Video 9 is a freeware PSP video converter. It will convert the files on your computer to the kind of files the PSP will accept in order to watch movies and other video content. You can download it at pspvideo9.com. It was invented by an engineering student and while free, the website does ask for a donation if you enjoy using it.
The PSP Won't Read Just Any Format_
The long and short of it is this: The PSP only works with one file format while there are many file formats on the PC such as avi, mpeg, etc. Since the content on our DVDs or the content we are going to download is not in the desired PSP format, we have to perform a conversion of those files. In order to do this, we need a PSP video converter. There are several of these out there. You can certainly buy one or you can use one of the free ones off the internet.
If your Memory Stick is not already properly formatted, you must format it before using PSP Video 9. If you're not sure how to do this, you can view a tutorial at psp.connect.com. Next, you plug your PSP into your computer using a USB cable and also plug your memory stick in. Just follow the prompts and within mere minutes this PSP video converter will have downloaded your video content to your PSP. Not only does this short process convert your video files into the proper format, it also performs the download to your PSP.
Interestingly enough, Sony also has a PSP video converter. This one, PSP Media Manager is for sale as a download for 19.95 or packaged for 29.95. It will convert the video, audio and image files on your PC to your PSP. Hmm_let's build a console that accepts only one file format and then we can introduce our own PSP video converter.
It's confusing at best. It would have been nice of Sony to include the PSP Media Manager as part of one of those upgrades. Since they didn't though, it's up to you to choose which PSP video converter is right for you.
